Cross Country Gains Speed as Districts Loom

Written by Keven Lenahand '11 on October 7, 2009.

The St. Edward Cross Country team is proving to be the best the school has seen in years. With a 2nd place finish at the McDonough Invitational, a formidable 7th place finish at the Ohio All Catholic Championships, and 5th place finish last weekend at the Gilmour Academy Invitational, the team has two more weeks to knock down times for Districts.

Matt Lockyer has proven to be a strong team leader this year. Finishing with a 16:37 5K at All Catholic, Matt is only seconds away from setting a new school record.

Although injuries are starting to plague the team, the Eagle runners have a deep stock of talent. The next two weeks will be crucial in determining how the team competes at Districts, Regionals, and possibly the State Championship race. This Saturday, the Eagle runners will race at the Medina Cross Country Festival.
