Written by Alexander Nixon '10 on October 29, 2009.

National organizations are starting to take note of the Edsman. In April, edsman.com was named a finalist for the National Scholastic Press Association’s Pacemaker Award at the National Convention in Phoenix. As one of 15 finalists for the most prestigious award the association gives for an outstanding online edition, edsman.com was awarded “for its clean, visual design, full range of coverage and high degree of functionality.”

This fall has netted two more awards for the publication. In September, the Columbia University Scholastic Press Association recognized the paper with a Silver Medalist Award for its “well balanced coverage” and its “excellent blend of intriguing, concisely written stories.” The paper received 903 out of 1000 pos- sible points in its first year of adjudication.

October saw another exceptionally prestigious award for the publication. The Quill and Scroll Society bestowed its International First Place Award on the Edsman for its “pleasing appearance... in-depth coverage... (and) first-rate sports reporting.” Overall, the organization, operating out of the School of Journalism of the University of Iowa, awarded the paper 900 of 1000 possible points
