Last Saturday, the JV Eagles took on the JV team of the number two team in the state, Cincinnati Moeller. In an evenly matched game, the Eagles went nose-to-nose with Moeller. Sophomore Quincy “Swagger” Jones caught the eventual game winning touchdown throw from sophomore quarterback Henry Hilow late in the fourth quarter. The JV team stopped Moeller’s offense on a goal line stand with no time left on the clock to win 19-15.
Junior Mike Barno said about the victory, “We like to finish games with the ball in the offense’s hands, but we have a strong defense and were able to shut them down.”
At Memorial Stadium on October, 17, the JV Football team remained undefeated in a 20-0 victory over Erie Cathedral Prep. With a final score of 20-0, the JV team demolished Erie Prep on both sides of the field. The team’s offense, led by sophomore running back Demetrius Holmes, was matched by total defensive domination under the coaching of Peter Pappas. Now with both wins under their belts, the JV team looks to finish off its perfect sea- son against the St. Ignatius JV squad. The JV Holy War will take place this Saturday morning at Coughlin Field.
“We always prepare to win and as long as we are able to lessen our penalties we’ll beat them,” said Junior Richie Alt- ieri. “We never overlook our opponents.”
