2009 Wings Auction Supports Financial Aid Programs

Written by Matt Skowronski '10 on October 29, 2009.

St. Edward’s annual Wings Auction was again a success this year, raising approximately $160,000. More corporations sponsored this year’s auction than any previous auction, and the 275 guests in attendance donated generously. The overall review of the auction was a success. All of the proceeds benefit students by means of financial assistance or scholarships. “Despite the tough economy, we did much better than we anticipated,” stated Mr. John Goers.

The night’s theme was “Tropical Paradise,” which allowed the school’s atmosphere to transform from that of a place of learning to one of an idyllic resort. Many things were auctioned, including priceless items like eight tickets to the commencement ceremony. Many companies donated to the auction, which provided a variety of interesting items.

Surprise guest Michael Symon ’87, Cleveland’s and St. Edward’s Iron Chef, appeared and made a dessert on the spot to be auctioned off. Basketball fans were able to bid for Cavaliers Coach Mike Brown’s personal tickets. Eight puppies that were to be auctioned were the talk of the women at the auction.

The next auction will be held October 2010, and planning for it will begin this February.
