Nowadays, it is a rarity for a band to be able to sing their own songs in concert as they do in the studio. Artists are known for using computers to enhance their voices and the sounds of their instruments, a practice that has led to problems such as lip-syncing.
Peter Frampton made one of the most successful live albums of all time, entitled Frampton Comes Alive!, re- leased on January 6, 1976. Today, it is the second-highest selling live album of all time and features hits such as “Show Me the Way” and “Do You Feel Like We Do.” Frampton is particularly unique because he has mastered the art of using a “talk box,” which creates a synthesized sounding voice on stage or can just be used to make different sounds. Many of Framp- ton’s songs on this album are mellow, but he also introduces some incredible solos.
Besides the success of hav- ing sold millions of copies, Frampton Comes Alive! has even been referenced in the movie Wayne’s World and on the T.V. show “Family Guy.” I would highly recommend this album to anybody looking for an incredible live performance or to explore the roots of rock music today.
