On November 5, members of the Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice, or CSPJ, attended the Bioneers Conference at Cleveland State University, where they participated in a number of workshops pertaining to living in harmony with the ecosystem. This is a very relevant topic for Cleveland, since our city is situated next to one of the world’s largest freshwater lake systems, the Great Lakes. To preserve these lakes and the ecosystems that rely on them, we must exercise great care.
Bioneering helps us to achieve this by finding eco-friendly solutions to everyday problems. Recycling, composting, alternative fuels, and wind power were all topics discussed at the conference. It is thought that the utilization of these in Cleveland would greatly help the local environment. The conference also suggested simple everyday activities designed to enable us to help the environment. These included recycling, turning off the lights after leaving a room, and packing reusable drinking containers instead of water bottles as easy ways to preserve our ecosystem and help Lake Erie thrive. •
