Basketball Team Prepares for Upcoming Season

Written by Alexander Nixon '10 on November 20, 2009.

The end of fall signals the beginning of the high school basketball season here in Ohio, and the Eagles are preparing for a challenging season.  Following a 16-7 season, the Eagles return a solid nucleus of experienced players including all the starters from last year’s district runner-up squad. The team is embracing the mantra, “Live the Journey.” It is a constant reminder to focus on improving each day in order to achieve their goal of bringing home a state championship.

Guards Ryan Angers ’10, Delbert Love ’11, Myles Hamilton ’12, and forwards Matt Stainbrook ’10 and James Price ’11 will lead the Eagles into a challenging schedule, that includes the team’s return to the Beach Ball Classic Holiday Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.  Other key match-ups include games with Toledo Libbey at Cleveland State University and against Detroit Central Catholic in the Motor City.  Andrew Bazyk ’10, Mike Corcoran ’10, Brian Horansky ’10, Kyle Pisco ’11, and Mike Newton ’12 will also contribute heavily to the team’s success.

Head Coach Eric Flannery ’90 is “excited about the depth of the program and the caliber of player we have.  It’s going to allow us to play lots of different line-ups and styles. This year’s team will definitely be exciting to watch.”  More importantly, Coach Flannery feels, “Our squad will peek at the right time, at the end of the year and go into the postseason with experience and momentum.”

The Eagles kick off the 2009-2010 season on December 1 against the Rangers of Lakewood.
