Wrestlers Work to Dominate

Written by Anthony Taylor '11 on November 20, 2009.

One year ago, the wrestling team was able to defy the critics and win their 13th consecutive and 25th overall wrestling state championship. Under the coaching of Mr. Greg Urbas, the 2008-09 Coach of the Year, the team is looking to do it again.

“Our team is going to be really good this year,” said team captain and state champion prospect, Nick Sulzer ’10, “all the elements are there.”

Under the leadership of veteran wrestlers Jamie Clark ’10, Nick Sulzer’10, Anthony Salupo ’10, and Gus Sako ’10, the wrestling team has ended pre-season conditioning, and as of November 13, has begun its rigorous practice routine in preparation for the Ironman Tournament, December 11- 12 at Walsh Jesuit. “This tournament is considered the toughest on the East Coast,” said Jake Peterjohn ’11.

Once again, there are those who are predicting an upset of the Eagles at the state tournament. Ryan Giachetti ’11 dismisses this negative thinking, “The state championship is in our sights. We will win it this year!”
