Mock Trial Team Studies Litigation

Written by Cody Yanniello '11 on November 20, 2009.

In its inaugural appearance last year, the Mock Trial Team enjoyed an outstanding turnout. It is expected to again be extremely competitive in this season’s upcoming tournaments. The team, consisting of thirty-two members and moderated by Mrs. Suzanne Fairfield, really comprises three sub-teams of ten to eleven students each. These three teams (green, gold, and white) are led by captains junior Jonathan Lacoste, senior Alexander Nixon, and junior Cody Yanniello respectively.

The team recently met with some of St. Edward’s most accomplished alumni, the “Legal Eagles,” a distinguished group who have assumed careers in the fields of law and criminal justice. Each team was assigned five or six attorneys as teaching resources for the eager students. The students will continue to practice and scrimmage throughout the winter until their first competition in February.

At the end of the year each member of the Mock Trial Team hopes to walk away with new understanding of law, as well as the ability to effectively persuade and convey opinions through public speaking.
