Many of the students and staff at St. Ed’s at one point of time or another have come to know senior Mike Manno. Mike, a member of our Varsity Lacrosse Team, Student Council Vice-president, and Editor of the Yearbook, expanded his horizons from just the playing field and St. Ed’s classroom. Over the summer, Mike was involved with Alphaport, a NASA contractor that deals with rocket engines and spacecraft safety devices. Mike’s contributions were so significant that his name was added as a co-author of the resolution. Mike and several NASA physicists were trying to predict the atomic oxygen erosion yield. On a day to day basis, Mike would help make different polymers to test, expose the polymers to high velocity oxygen beams, and create mathematical models. The paper of which Mike is a co-author will be presented in Aix-en-Province, France from September 14-18.
